Hi, I tried to migrate my pixelfed account to a different server using aliases as the instructions described. It redirects, but no posts or follows have come over, and it's been over 24 hours. Sending a DM to admin doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know if it's backed up right now over people being frustrated with Instagram?

If it isn't going to work that's fine, because I'm willing to start over. I'm just curious if this is working for other people or I'm forgetting something obvious.

I am very out of the loop with related recent tech, but once in a while i wish i had subtitles for internet clips, and i understand there's good tech out there for this these days. Is there something i can download in a typical headless Debian machine that i can then point at some MP4 clip to get subtitles? Even if imperfect it's better than trying to type that from scratch

Hi,

I search for a web software for Android and iOS to collaborate a photo album with friends at a bicycle trip and share it with the families and other friends. Maybe it is similar the photo album on iOS or an album on google photos.

My first idea was to use instagram. But after to much using it, I don't like it anymore. there are to much commercial. So maybe Pixelfed is an option. It is Ad-free and privacy friendly. In Pixelfed I can create collections, but I can't share the rights to add photos in there. So it won't work in my case.

My second idea is to use a Nextcloud. But it isn't user friendly to click on every file to watch the photo.

So my question is, do you know a software, where I can create a photo album and share it with my friends to add photos and my family can watch these?

Solution: Thanks for finding the solution, kate (in the comments). The option to control this is --extractor-retries .

I recently start using SponsorBlock feature with yt-dlp . When it looks up SponsorBlock server, it tries 3 times to connect and download information. I would like to increase the retries for this specifically, but could not find the right setting or option in the manual (man yt-dlp) and help (yt-dlp --help). I would like to increase it to at least 5 or maybe even 10 retries per video.

I've noticed for sometimes it cannot login within the first 3 look ups, but when I retry the command after that it will just look up fine. Therefore an increase in the retries setting would be helpful. Especially helpful when downloading entire playlists, leaving it for some time alone.

I enjoyed this post despite not needing a guide, because it shows someone doing real-world creative work with open-source software. Glimpses of their art and workspace made it even more fun.

Hey everyone, I work as a business ans systems analyst and I need to manage a lot of requirements. We are using documents and spreadsheets, but this approach is sooo error prone and time consuming.

I am looking for something that I will use as the sole user, for the moment, as my company has other standards right now. This will help me in making sense of structure and avoid information loss.

My main needs are traceability matrixes for tracing requirements to implementation and test cases, versioning of requirements, tracing of changes in a requirement, analyze impacts of change requests.

I am looking for a tool that supports the following diagramming and modeling frameworks: UML, BPMN, SysML. ArchiMate support might be interesting. It also need to support written requirements and specifications, business rules, objectives.

The current project I am working on extensively uses ontologies, RDF/OWL, and XML. Support for these would also be useful, but not essential. I am mostly interested in the logic of the main requirements tracing processes.

I really liked the ease of use as it was in OSRMT. Unfortunately the software is pretty buggy and unmaintained. ReqView is another very good software for written requirements, but it supports diagramming only as attachment of files, and also is not free and open source :(

So, I tried Modelio, Papyrus, Archi, OSRMT, ReqView. Here's the source I checked the most: https://www.requirementsmanagementtools.com/opensource.php Something like Enterprise Architect from Sparx Systems is cool, but very complex to use.

Apparently, this kind of software is very niche and corporate oriented, so there is just a bunch of free and open source products for this kind of activities.

I am open for any idea! Thank you

I am planning to create an open source project for a web application whose entire premise is to provide an otherwise paid service for free, so I am not planning to commercialize the project. This project is also a passion project. I seek to improve my skills by working on the application and I am not looking forward to expand it as an organization nor invest more time or resources into it than necessary.

However I want to know if I could ask for voluntary donations which support me on a personal level and not for the project itself. I want to consider it as a passive income and I don't care how much I receive in donations as long as I am doing it ethically and someone is willing to donate for this purpose knowingly.

If it is possible for me to ask for donations this way, how would it impact the domain of my website? Could I use .org for it being non-profit overall or would I need to use .com for asking for donations to be used for personal expenses in any manner? Or would I need to use a specific domain for this situation?

I am looking for an open source solution similar to this:

https://photoroute.app/

I have traveled quite a bit and taken a lot of photos (with gps data). Ideally I would like to use these photos to create a map connecting the different waypoints via roads which I could then use in a slideshow. Bonus points if the map can be animated with panning and zooming effects for different parts of the journey.

I have a large number of photos edited and ready to go and want to then them into an album. Does anyone have any recommendations for any FOSS software that I can use to arrange the images to pages, and add text?

I intend to send the data to a professional printer for printing and binding.

My first thought was Libre Office's Draw, but maybe this community has something more appropriate.

Released back in March of 2018 was the Amarok 2.9 music player for this KDE project. Shipping today is finally Amarok 3.0 as the first major release in six years and now ported to Qt5 and KDE Frameworks 5.

I'm trying to get a new web site up and running with ghost, but I'm wondering if it's really designed for selling products, like the way Gumroad is, for example. I was attracted to ghost because of its built-in mailing list and blogging capabilities (and because it's open source), and I thought adding a "commerce element" for lack of a better term, probably wouldn't be too hard, but now I'm not so sure. Am I trying to get this platform to do something it isn't really designed for?

It's so awesome that I can let my kid paint with Krita and let her enhance the picture with AI live. She wanted to have an AI picture editor on her phone but I didn't like the privacy policy. But Krita AI Diffusion came to the rescue.

After testing it out myself I showed her Krita, the most important tools and how to use layers and before I could say anything she was off to paint a nice landscape. When she was finished I actually got to enable the AI plugin and show her the ropes around that. And after enabling live painting she went ham and added a phoenix and a giant hand.

Hardest thing about it was that she had to describe what she wanted in English. But she's already learning that in school so it shouldn't give her too much trouble in the long run.

Anyways, FOSS rules!

Our results show that women's contributions tend to be accepted more often than men's [when their gender is hidden]. However, when a woman's gender is identifiable, they are rejected more often. Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless.

I was very excited to learn about this project...only to discover it's neither free nor open source. Does anyone know of any true open source and accessible tools for Syllabus sharing/curating/researching?

I used this for years, from version 1.9 all the way to 5.x when I moved onto other software.

EDIT: Here is the full press release.

As you can easily notice, today many open source projects are using some services, that are… sus.

For example, Github is the most popular place to store your project code and we all know, who owns it. And not to forget that sketchy AI training on every line of your code. Don't we have alternatives? Oh, yes we have. Gitlab, Codeberg, Notabug, etc. You can even host your own Gitea or Forgejo instance if you want.

Also, Crowdin is very popular in terms of software (and docs) translation. Even Privacy Guides and The New Oil use Crowdin, even though we have FLOSS Weblate, that you can easily self-host or use public instances.

So, my question is: if you are building a FLOSS / privacy related project, why using proprietary and privacy invasive tools?
