Non-essential crypto news covers crypto advertisement, insignificant news that does not affect legit users like XMR/ETH/BTC holders or darknet users, posts relating to garbage like Brave browser and its coin, and so on. Due to the multiple kinds of crypto posts that pop up, this rule will be applied subjectively on a case-by-case basis.

Community complaints about Elon Musk were raised here. https://lemmy.ml/post/7186058

A lot of ad and spam posts appear regularly, which need to be squashed. This will be enforced more heavily from now on.

Sometimes legitimate products are advertised, which should be allowed to post. This will be checked per case basis, and unless asked for permission, all such posts will be removed without notice.

Lemmy is not going to be Reddit. It will not inherit the reactionary behaviours. Ensure civillity and disengage if uncomfortable. Have a good time!

Do not post article screenshots. Instead, post article URLs or archived version URLs from archive.org or archive.is. You will be warned and may be temporarily banned for this violation.

I think recommendation algorithms and advertising are separate things, however think with defaults and when it comes to what specific data is collected, where do you draw the line? Absolutely no recommendations at all based on an algorithm? Would you say using your 'like' history to recommend you more videos is okay? What about watch history, or save history?

Same question can also be asked about where you draw the line on advertising. Just say Youtube showed ads purely based on your video like history, would that be creepy?

I think we can all draw the line at location history, how long you linger on a post, etc. I'd like to know your thoughts on where you'd draw the line for both advertising and content recommendations. (This is two questions)

Sorry that this post is horribly formatted. I'm tired, acoustic and had a shower thought 😝

The whole manifest v3 announcement happened years ago and it's been at least a year since the whole timeline...

In September 2023, Steve Teixeira was the respected and successful Chief Product Officer of Mozilla Corporation and poised to become Mozilla Corporation’s next CEO. But on October 3, 2023, he was diagnosed with ocular melanoma and soon went on a 90 day medical leave for treatment. Immediately upon his return, Mozilla campaigned to demote or terminate Mr. Teixeira citing groundless concerns and assumptions about his capabilities as an individual living with cancer. Interim Chief Executive Officer Laura Chambers and Chief People Officer Dani Chehak were clear with Mr. Teixeira: he could not continue as Chief Product Officer and could not continue as a Mozilia employee in any capacity beyond 2024—because of his diagnosis. When Mr. Teixeira opposed this discriminatory action, Mozilla responded by unilaterally placing him on indefinite administrative leave, effectively disappearing both Mr. Teixeira and his complaints of discrimination. Mozilla has discriminated and retaliated against Mr. Teixeira in violation of the Washington Law Against Discrimination. Mozilla has also unlawfully shared his personal health information, and unlawfully sought to gag his speech about illegal discrimination and retaliation.
