I think it’s a boon that we’re a tiny fraction of Reddit’s size. Reddit is something like 30+ million MAUs and Lemmy dropped recently from 62k to ~50k. We’re a grain of sand compared to Reddit, and I think the community is better for it.

Lemmy isn’t really a Reddit alternative. We’re too small to have niche thriving communities, and depend 100% on sorting your feed by “all” or “local” to get new content. What’s nice is it feels like one close knit community vs closed off micro communities inside of subreddits.

I get exposed to more things this way oddly enough- viewing content I normally wouldn’t in favor of my smaller selection of subreddits. People are more polite, more informative, and far more original with their comments.

Keep on doing your thing, everyone! We’re building something different here.

I joined Lemmy over Kbin because I hate that Kbin does the karma/reputation thing. It’s terrible.

Yes they do. Your profile has a “reputation” score. It’s cringe.

It's fairly meaningless. I didn't even know it was there. It affects nothing and I don't really see people worry about it. Not to say you should come over here suddenly, but Kbin does have better content control (though pretty sure that's only temporary as I believe Lemmy is working on it). Kbin has instance blocking so even if your instance federates with instance B, you can still block instance B. It's not a big deal and I haven't used it, but I do like having more control over what I see.

As long as there are internet points to be won and lost, no matter the affect, it will sway people to post/reply in a certain way. It’s toxic to participation and honest conversation.

Hmm I'd prefer it if I could sticky some of my posts or comments to my profile so that any visitors get a better idea of what I care about.

Often the highest rated content isn't the most meaningful or fitting.

Yea I think so, and I agree with @[email protected], I don't think it's great, and I think that it should be something that you as a user can opt out of across the fediverse.

I heard they don't aggregate their federated votes, not sure if that's true.
