I see far FAR more people complaining about tankies and posts talking shit about tankies than I ever see posts or comments by tankies.
It's honestly tiresome.
There was a wave of tankie on Reddit and here during the reddexit. It was like, “where the fuck did stalin/mao/pol pot loving, atrocity denying weirdos come from en masse?” But you’re right the shock was bigger than the phenomenon.

No one called them communist here, they are just calling out people who are apologists for genocide.
TIL Marxist-Leninists (which Pol Pot was) are not communist.
It’s worth remembering when pol pot was offered access to the entire library of the cpc he just said “nah, I got this”.
Turning down the chance to read some dry, boring books on political economy is about the least communist thing a person can do. It’s only beaten by arguing about that shit and making a split when the argument gets heated.
