Help with HDD (lemmy.ml)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I have a 4TB HDD that I use to store music, films, images, and text files. I have a 250GB SDD that I use to install my OS and video games. So far I didn't have any problem with this setup, obviously it's a bit slower when it reads the HDD but nothing too serious, but lately it's gotten way worse, where it just lags too much when I try to access files on that disk, and specially when it comes to listening to music, it's super annoying. I'm using Elisa music player and it just takes ages to load the albums.

Below is my system and HDD information. I think I'm supposed to use hardlinks or something to access those files, could that be a reason? I've never even fully filled my HDD and it's only 3 years old.

Well, I have to say that Harmonoid is the best one I've found, it has a ton of cool features, it works and it allows you to be able to see your collection by album and it doesn't use Electron. Right now its development has stalled a bit but it's still pretty much in good shape, though.

Yes, because the US has never been involved in imperialism in Latinamerica, this has to be fake because US good.

Plus tanks work better in the winter and Russia has quite a few of them which are cheap and easy to deploy.

I will try to remember this in 6 months.

Hawai'i, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, northern Mexico which is now Texas, all of this without taking into account that the US is itself a settler state that massacred all its indigenous population and that literally inspired Nazi Germany. I haven't even mentioned territories which are still colonies to this day by Europe by the way.

Do you mean like when Julian Assange published papers demonstrating that the US soldiers were killing civilians for fun and then they extradited him, imprisoned, also imprisoned Manning and wanted to keep everything a mistery?

There are some really nice music players out there but most of them work in this kind of tree way where they show you a small image of the album, and below all of the songs, or worst, directly show you all of the songs. I generally browse by looking at album covers and there I decide what to listen, so being able to look at the covers is something I really need. So far I've been using Elisa, which is the one who works the best for me, but then it got bugged so I switched to Lollypop, but I don't like the GUI as much since it is a bit messy.

Basically, something more like this:

Instead of something like this:

I've tried Resonance and I really like it, but it seems really alpha and with not much active development for being a relatively new project.

So, basically I'd like to replace the /home with different hard drives. I have a 4tb one that I'm using for videos, a 1tb I'm using for audio files and video games (not the actual game installed there but for example executables or ROMs), and a 500gb I'm using for texts and images. My idea would be to not have the /documents folder and so on and have a drive for everything. Can I do this?

Almost 18 months into the war in Ukraine, Europe’s defense contractors — flooded with demand for everything from ammunition to shoulder-launched missiles and combat vehicles — face a dilemma. Do they gamble on expanding production, assuming that the war and tensions with Russia will last indefinitely? Or hold back until they get long-term commitments from governments that have spent the past few decades shaving or even slashing their defense budgets?
