And this is creating a very dangerous precedent, where the US government shows complete disrespect of international law and provides Israel with this so-called feeling of utter impunity.

I understand that Biden should please his donors, but isn't there a single candidate that thinks more about the humans than for the money.

And that's why ladies and gentlemen, we the plebes outside the US don't like the US state, because they always think they are above the law and act as such. Law should apply to everyone equally, no matter what their nationality or how fat their bank account is. Deliberately undermining the law should be punishable, and these people should seriously be ashamed of themselves by thinking they are the only one who can define what's right and wrong!

With all due respect the US has been in open contempt of international law for the past 20+ years.

Guantanamo for example is completely illegal.

Probably closer to 130 years starting with their invasion of Hawaii and then involvement in coups in South America and the Middle East.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I'm not too familiar with historic international law, but most of the ones in modern use are only decades old. So, while the invasion of Hawaii may be immoral and may have broken international norms, I'm not sure if it's consider to have broken "International Law".

The concept of sovereign states is generally considered to be established in the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Of course the US did not exist at the time but it was a concept established as International Law before it was founded. Of course most treaties of this kind weren't signed by nearly the same percentage of nations they are today.

This isn’t simply a matter of Biden pleasing his donors, nor is it really about Biden in particular. This is the liberal international order working as designed, namely that the US makes the rules and orders everyone else around. Israel is a settler-colonial project of the Western imperial core, and it has been the US’ unsinkable aircraft carrier in West Asia for generations. As Biden has said throughout his career, “were there not an Israel, the United States of America would have to invent an Israel to protect her interest in the region.” The Hague Invasion Act has been on the books for over 20 years, so this is nothing new and has always been bipartisan.

Just to nitpick here, were decades beyond this particular precedent. It's just particularly blatant and hard for liberals to deny right now.

International law isn't real, never has been, and never will be until nation-state economic interests, or better yet, leaders of those states are arrested for violation.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

isn’t there a single candidate that thinks more about the humans than for the money.

Yes, plenty.

Any of them that will be allowed anywhere near power?

No, none.

The US once again acting like they are the only sheriff in town pisses me off. Making Netanyahu accountable for his crimes has absolutely zero shit to do with protecting Israel. Biden should understand that. His young electors understand that.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

I totally agree, I just think this is purely posturing by Blinken. Policitally, Biden is on a tightrope here. He can't risk thumbing his nose up at Israel, and he can't risk pissing off any more young electors as you called them by being too soft on Israel. Sanctioning the ICC members would piss off a lot of those electors.

My first thought of a response to the top level post was:

(Narrator voice) They're not going to sanction shit here.

If anything, prosecuting him might even make Israel safer because this whole thing is serving as a recruitment campaign for Hamas or whatever replaces them if Israel manages to eliminate their current command structure.

There is no doubt that protecting this son of a bitch acts more for anti-Semitism than against

Not only does blue MAGA want me to vote for genocide, they want me to vote for genocide denial and the destruction of international law.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Fucking hell. What monsters would propose ending food programs across the world just so one man can sit in power during a genocide?

He's a man, he can be replaced, he will be replaced eventually. Why are we going to piss off every country with a conscience for this goblin of a man with the military and political brainpower of a bowling pin?

Only thing this will do is fuel animosity towards the US.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago

This action was so fucked up and beyond my list of shitty things that the US might do that it honestly didn't occur to me and so when reading the headline I found it confusingly phrased but thought maybe it somehow meant there was some hint of support for the ICC's decision and warrants which would have been amazing. Imagine the rollercoaster for me when they actually managed to surprise me with a decision and stance worse than I could have imagined.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

The US will do the right thing one day, after they've tried everything else.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Fuck me the USA has turned into Russia, just shit posting/voting in the UN all the time. This is getting more and more to what Russia wants, no more UN, and they wanna trash it over genocide that they seem very ok with. Why are we not learning from the past. I was told we were to learn from it.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago

Fuck me the USA has turned into Russia,

Always has been. There's a reason all meaningful Israel-related UN resolutions are 50+ years old.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

How is that, Russia has stated many times they want the UN to go away. By doing all this its just segmenting the people and weakening the power it holds. Please use more then 3 words to make your point.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Oh they're gonna sanction people. I thought this was a bigger deal, but I guess it's a nothing-ish burger.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Do, or do not. There is no hint.
