I'm tired of hearing about this company and its owner. Why is this news? Why is this shared? Can move on?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It gets worse on Fediverse as there are multiple threads to the same link on multiple instances. can't get rid of reposts anymore

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Most of them from the same 4 or 5 users.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Not even news, it happened a few days ago now

[–] [email protected] -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

isn't this supposed to be reddit? upvote the title of the article whenever it says something that aligns with your political identity

Dude is still simping for Musk. No sympathy.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I honestly don't understand why anyone still has an account on that platform. Surely it's obvious that the company is going down in flames and that Musk is going to outright steal users and handles from content creators. Inertia is not a good reason to fall victim to Sunk Cost Fallacy. It's done. Leave.

Almost none of the people I follow on Twitter aren't on Mastodon and almost none of the people that follow me aren't there either. I'm not on Twitter because of the platform. I'm there because of the people on that platform. My strictly curated feed haven't changed during the past few years no matter how hard people here are trying to convince me that Twitter has gone to shit. Maybe for you it has but I can't relate. What ever Elon is doing happens in a corner of Twitter I'm not spending my time on.

It's also the only platform where I've managed to grow any kind of following. It's much nicer posting my content somewhere people actually see it unlike on places like Instagram which is just shouting into the void. The only change I've made is switch from the Flamingo app to browser because they killed 3rd party apps just like reddit.

Two things I‘m gonna fix for ya:

  • All the people you know on twitter are also on mastodon. Double negatives are dumb.
  • They came first for the communists… is your approach. Has been tried, don’t recommend.

Good luck

[–] [email protected] -4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

All the people you know on twitter are also on mastodon.

Yeah that's simply just false

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Almost none of the people I follow on Twitter aren't on Mastodon and almost none of the people that follow me aren't there either.

In that case it’s your own fault.

You mean „none of the people are on mastodon“ not „aren‘t“.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

It's what you wrote.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You want to know something that's really amazing? This is 100% true, too. I'm not even kidding:

None of that matters.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Well I just don't feel like you not liking twitter is a good enough reason for me to leave the platform.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's not what I'm saying. But ok.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's what the agument essentially boils down. I'm having a good time there but people still keep telling me I should leave. Personally I encounter significantly more toxic behaviour on Lemmy compared to Twitter. I'm still here too.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm just saying all the things you listed don't matter in the long run. Unless you can specifically name the people you follow or follow you and all the other things you mentioned, its not important and can be easily replaced.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm sorry but that's just not true. Mastodon has 7 million users and Twitter has 400 million. It took me a literal decade to build the following I now have on twitter. That's not easy to replace and frankly I don't even see why I should.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You yourself just said that almost all the people you follow and almost all the people who follow you on Twitter are also on Mastodon. That being true, there's no difference if you want to use federated services instead. But you should hike your own hike. If Twitter is your jam, enjoy it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

I absolutely have not said that

EDIT: apparently I did say that. Don't know why but I fixed it now

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It happens. If nothing else, we understand why you want to stay active on both services.

Honest question: Have you thought about what to do when Elon notices your corner of Twitter (or when it finally collapses and is shut down)?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

If he bans adult content or something then I just move elsewhere. Now I just mute everything unrelated in my feed and mark as "not intereste" for all irrelevant suggestions. So far it seems to work well enough

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Nice. I hope it continues.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It honestly sounds like you've found a niche where Elon hasn't looked yet. Congratulations.

If Twitter is a better platform for you, why bother with the fediverse?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I only post pictures on twitter. I don't engage in conversations. Ever. That's what reddit and now Lemmy is for.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fair enough. But why not post your pictures here, too?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I could but it's quite niche community I hang in which is not present here. I'm not active on twitter either but when I feel like posting something that's where I go to

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

That's cool. I hope it continues to work.

Old News news from last week.
Belongs in the enough musk spam community.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Woah crazyyyy. Everyone should get off if Twitter.
