I’m curious to what other platforms you’re all using alongside Lemmy.

I’ve been on Mastodon for 5 years, and have a great community there. I also use WriteFreely, if you count that as social media—it’s really just a blogging platform, not a lot of interaction.

The only corporate social network I’m still on is LinkedIn, because it’s essential for my job.

I’ve been on Mastodon for 5 years

Damn that's a long time.

I need to ask, how do you deal with other languages posts? here I mostly watch stuff in English, and that is fine, that's how Reddit worked for me but on Mastodon other languages such as french, japanese and Chinese sneak out in my feeds (I follow hashtags of my interests) and that makes my experience poor.

I know there is a handy translation tool, but I'd rather want other users to respect the language posts (as I do, when I type in Spanish I change to the language for example, I also have a filter within the Mastodon settings to hide other languages but Spanish and English) than having to manually translate everything which is not in English or Spanish... It would be nice if the translator worked automatically too.

Sorry I can’t give a better answer, but I follow people rather than hashtags, and only people who post in a language I know, so it’s never been an issue for me.

I just use lemmy at this point. I tried mastodon, but as someone who never "got" Twitter, I don't understand mastodon, either. I'm an odd duck in that I haven't really participated in social media past 2007 when I deleted all the accounts I had at the time.

I'll look into it. I'm always interested in social media that doesn't require me to give up massive amounts of privacy.

Bro I'm the same. The only other thing I use is YouTube but that's not as a social network it's just to access interesting educational content

Besides this I use grapheneos' discussion forum and thats pretty much it

I use Matrix and Discord. It seems that I can't get away from Discord. Unfortunately, Revolt doesn't have an Android client and I can't use them until they launch actual clients. Discord is kind of a compromise between my classmates at school for group chats because apart from that there's only sms or Instagram which are even more privacy invasive.

Edit: and obviously can't use Matrix because it's only for tech savvy

Google Plus was awesome, but it had to die in the most disappointing fashion.

Most of the people I was interested in on G+ are in mastodon now, but G+ had long form posts and they could really say things if they wanted to. Some mastodon servers allow longer posts but I don’t think they’re anywhere near as long.

Barely Instagram and I can't say is a favourite. I used to really like deviantart before the eclipse overhaul some years ago, but I don't use it anymore.

I use Mastodon a bit because it’s much easier for me to find local content. My local Lemmy instance is a bit content-lite and Lemmy in general has the Reddit issue of being USA centric leading to things being referred generally but actually being very specific to the USA.

After the reddit filth, I now have 6 accounts on 6 different sites, most are decentralized and none of them are popular, this way if one of them decide to become like reddit filth, I'm all set.

You can find me on several sites I'm self-hosting: Firefish, Peertube, Matrix, Lemmy, Email... Besides of that I'm still stuck with Youtube, and to an even lesser extent with Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Whatsapp. Never bothered to make an account on Tiktok, and as for Instagram I only have one by pivot from my FB account, I follow nobody there and only log in to view the occasional account that posts only there.

That’s a ton of social media. Getting anxious just reading this!
