Looking at the GitHub, Issue #134 calls the idea "absolutely unethical and against the open web." Issue #113 say they "can't believe this is even proposed." Issue #127 adds: "Have you ever stopped to consider that you're the bad guys?"

Serving up unblock-able ads is just a small part of what this DRM will do. It will be used to track you, as well. VPNs will be useless because the tracking won't be done through your IP address, but through your browser, identified by DRM and tied to your Google account.
That's what this is really all about. They want to know who you are, where you are, where you go, what you see, what you buy, and who you associate with. And don't think for a moment that Google won't hand this information over to any government officials who are looking for an excuse to abuse you. Forcing you to watch ads is just the icing on the cake.

This will affect you even if you switch browsers, because Firefox and Brave devs said they are not going to support this due to widespread privacy violations this change proposes and the closure of the web ecosystem.
Any website that implements it will be unviewable from Firefox and Brave, possibly more browsers if they join the protest.
This malicious change has to be stopped.
Aand they've blocked any new comments or issues on their Github...
