I think that the best thing you could do is choose a different instance that is federated with more instances.

I remember the admins saying that they already conducted a survey of their users and a majority were fine with staying defederated from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works where a majority of users and content is being made. So currently they probably are fine with where they are. It is a matter of what kind of space they are trying to create.

Also you if you appreciate the moderation here you can always choose an instance that federates with beehaw so you can keep using their communities which is where most of the moderation happens anyways.

I was able to solve the problem. Instead of downloading it from the Software Manager I installed it from the terminal instead.

When I installed it from the software manager it didn't download one of the packages (org.gnome.platform/44) but when I did it from the terminal it did.

Thx though.

Edit: Yeah it was a flatpak.

It says that it continued into the Biden era as well.

The military program started under former President Donald Trump and continued months into Joe Biden’s presidency, Reuters found – even after alarmed social media executives warned the new administration that the Pentagon had been trafficking in COVID misinformation. The Biden White House issued an edict in spring 2021 banning the anti-vax effort, which also disparaged vaccines produced by other rivals, and the Pentagon initiated an internal review, Reuters found.

Happy cakeday. And yeah deescalation requires both parties to open to de-arm not only one of them.

Honestly though the best case scenario of how this all ends doesn't really look great to me.

Either Russia loses the war, the government destabilizes, a power vacuum is formed which causes a power shift in a way likely to lead to more aggressive action in the future.

Or Russia wins the war, eyes other countries after it settles into Ukraine, NATO/US need to respond or else it sends the wrong message to other countries allied with them, and we head for WW3

Edit: There is also the idea of a stalemate and this just becomes a continuous war that doesn't really end, but honestly I can't see that being stable long term.

I'd say that its a bit too early to say that their tech will always be behind (if only because they have access to a lot of critical resources and probably will have ways to copy tech from other companies) but I can agree that their military is definitely not as experienced as the US.

Doesn't the US have AI driven aircraft now? I think it is a little bit late for them to be courting them.

Edit: grammar

I'd probably use it to terraform certain urban and suburban places to be more hospitable to wildlife and humans living together. Like guerilla gardening and banksy mixed together.

Funnily enough the person that made this video had a little controversy on the vape-o-nomics video when he was talking about how subscription services were bad but then immediately pivoted towards an ad read for a subscription service.

Eventually it was removed (without a comment talking about, it happened silently) but still this stuff reaches everyone eventually.

So the company was aware but I was wondering on whether it was public knowledge released today or it was released back then but no one paid attention.

Also the report says that they don't believe it is a nation state actor because it doesn't match with any known malicious clusters but it's likely that countries have multiple unknown clusters they can test with if necessary.

I was more thinking about all the services that rely on internet access to function. Like most economic systems would basically crash or grind to a halt.

There are a lot of products that don't really need to be connected to the internet to do their job but are being connected anyways and would get bricked if access to the internet didn't work. For example internet connected security cameras that don't have cables connecting to where the data is being stored would be shot as well.

I mean the extent of the damage is really dependent on how the malware was spread which we don't know yet so still mostly speculation on how damaging it could be.

So the attack happened in October 2023 but it was only revealed to the public now? Or is it that it was public back then but people didn't pay attention?

Also the part where they say it has only ever happened as a precursor to a military invasion sort makes me think that this attack was some nation state practicing or signalling what they would do if they were in active cyber warfare which would be bad for the world if people in the competing nations didn't have internet access, even if it was only for a day or two.

Since whales are teaming up with each other to take down yachts and teaching others how to do it I thought this would be a fun question.

If a majority of intelligent enough sea animals that could communicate with each other teamed up to mess with human activities in the sea who would win.

By the way for people that say that humans would obviously win we have already lost a war against emus before.

Idk why I'm mentioning it but compared to a lot of other online platforms where if religion is being mentioned outside of a religious community it is really in your face on Lemmy it seems like when it is mentioned outside of that kind of community it seems relevant to whatever they are saying and are generally nice.

Its a nice change of pace.

49.6% of all internet traffic came from bots in 2023, a 2% increase over the previous year, and the highest level Imperva has reported since it began monitoring automated traffic in 2013. For the fifth consecutive year, the proportion of web traffic associated with bad bots grew to 32% in 2023, up from 30.2% in 2022, while traffic from human users decreased to 50.4%. To keep it short the reason why some people are ok with authoritarianism is because most structures that we deal with on a daily basis are authoritarian.

Here is evidence that shows a significant amount of people are ok with authoritarianism:

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/02/28/who-likes-authoritarianism-and-how-do-they-want-to-change-their-government/sr_24-02-28_authoritarianism_1/

This should be concerning.

And the thing is that it makes sense once you look at what are the most common systems that people interact with the most.

A clear example would be the Boss-Worker relationship. The boss creates a set of objectives/tasks for the worker and the worker sees them out. Rarely does the worker get the chance to set the higher level direction of what they are supposed to be doing with their time leaving them obedient to the boss and their demands.

Another example would be some Parent-Child relationships. Some parents treat their children as people that should show absolute respect towards them just because they are the parents not because they have something that is of value to the child (experience).

Even in the places where we do make democratic decisions those are usually made in ways that are supposed to be supplemental to authoritative decision making. An example would be how we don’t vote on decisions but instead how we vote on others to make decisions for us.

Once you add up all the experiences that someone has throughout their whole life you will see that most of them come into direct contact with authoritarian systems which means it makes that kind of way of thinking familiar and therefore acceptable.

Unlike democracy which is an abstract concept and something we only really experience from time to time.

If we want people to actually stop thinking authoritarianism is ok then we as a society are gonna have to stop using these kinds of systems / ways of thinking in our daily lives.
