I'm talking from a general user perspective who often can't even differentiate between chipsets let alone look for such details.

People used to got to Custom ROMs because OEMs were really doing shit job, that's not the case now given now.

Honestly, Custom ROMs have been in decline of usage since few years. There are also Other ROMS like Pixel Experience, PixyOS, Havoc, evolutionX, PixelOS, Paranoid, Derpfest, CrDroid and lot more.

The reason for the drop is due to a combination of reasons like better OEM UI, unpublished Kernel code (Chinese OEMs, Mediatek), locked bootloaders and Safetynet issues.

I'm currently rocking CrDroid it has currently ~85K active devices (https://stats.crdroid.net/).

The things a 2 trillion dollars company can afford.

Yes. More bloat to the app with unrequired features. It just doesn't feel like a chat app to me anymore.

I have never felt the need to use this app. MiXplorer has been serving me pretty well.

Same as me. But I would like to stress that NextDNS Xiaomi filters aren't best. They miss out a lot of trackers. So, you might have to add those individually.

I have also recently switched to CrDroid for my device. The activity of these blockings have dropped by 30%. Lot more privacy for the device.

You really to use a Chinese Android device to actually the know the actual bloat. Samsung looks a innocent child infront of it.

Can you tell me how this works. I'm a beginner in self-hosting and this seems interesting.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

You could grab the ISO and use ventoy. No need to format USBs again and again. Can store multiple ISOs and whatnot.

I'm sure I read that they got the exemption approved.

Yes. Thankfully.
