I think we are on the same page. I completely agree that EVs aren't enough or even the best solution.

Where does your power come from?

Right now? Primarily hydro with a strong solar and wind showing. Roughly 10% of my power is from Fossil fuels.

You are just shifting the shit elsewhere

Even with a pure fossil fuel grid, EVs still end up producing less CO2 than ICE vehicles. However, grids aren't pure fossil fuels which means EVs are far cleaner than Fossil fuel vehicles. Especially in my current circumstance.

Less than 8% of energy consumption in the US comes from renewable energy. Another 8% come from nuclear.

13% while being one of the fastest growing energy production sectors.

That's petrol / natural gas / coal powering your home, factories, shops, and restaurant

Not mine because I live in the Pacific North West which is the greenest grid in the US.

At least in the US, it's not just Netanyahu that's an issue. A lot of the mainstream media is making the same conflation.

That's why you'll see in articles like this one https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/23/nyregion/columbia-university-campus-protests.html which focus far more on students saying dumb shit at a protest and less on the ongoing genocide.

And you have to take what is being claimed as "antisemitic" with a huge grain of skepticism. I've seen claims that statements like "free Palestine" and "from the rivers to the seas" are "antisemitic".

This is problematic because even if you wanted to address antisemitism, focusing on people protesting a genocide is not the way to go. Instead, let's focus on the avowed Nazis parading around CPAC. Or maybe the Nazis in favor of Israel's genocide. Maybe we should wrestle with why antisemities are so often pro Israel.

I mean, knights weren't exactly poor people. This knight found a way to make his serfs make him more money.

Feel is a big part of it. Eink devices don't tend to have glossy screens so there's texture when writing on them. Further, due to the why eink works what gets written looks very much like writing on paper, no matter the lighting.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I use a boox but have the same take away. Any eink tablet is going to be 10x better than an iPad for notes.

It does mean you are more likely to get eyeballs on your driver from other people doing graphics card driver work. That usually results in higher quality and a higher likelihood of catching issues.

Bingo. They are better than burning fuel, full stop. Further EV shipping is also a net good. Biking and walking is the best, but if you are like me you live 10+ miles from work with no public transport to fill the gaps. It was either that or getting fucked over with rent.

People down on EVs are letting perfect be the enemy of good.

It was easy enough to excuse early on. There were signs of his terribleness but they weren't much worse than other cat manufacturers.

Now? Fuck him. I'm never sending musk another dime if I can avoid it.

What do you think copper ore looks like? What tools would you use?

Ancient mining was a punishment, generally a death sentence. It's hard work often overseen by a slave master.

Copper ore isn't concentrated copper either a lot of ore goes into a little copper. There's a reason only the really wealthy had copper items.

Ever wonder why it goes bronze age and then iron age? It's because it's a minor miracle humanity discovered how to smelt iron. Iron requires temperatures higher than you can achieve with just wood. Iron absorbs carbon and sulfur making it worthless (in the wrong mixtures).

The process is complex and resource intensive.

Assuming a bronze age civilization, copper or tin is the best you can hope for. Finding a magnet is going to be difficult because there's not really ferromagnetic materials available. In the modern era the most common material is iron.
