Isn't the shell kept closed by "the meat"? By opening it you are cutting through their muscles. Being stabbed is quite a process.

Farm animals are not animals in captivity.

Captivity implies being captured and being held captured.

It is about wild animals that do live longer in a control environment albeit loosing their freedom.

Animal farming is a different animal
