I think desktop will go towards immutable, and flatpak will be saving grace for it...

Native package still the king, but when the immutable desktop become standard, then the only option is using new sandboxed app runner like flatpak, or native package change it's building strategy.

There are rpm-ostree, but immutable desktop focus on stability, and with flatpak, it will offer the best experience.

I will say from business perspective, Red Hat already give offer to anyone.. And it's centos stream code, you can rebuilt it as same as RHEL, and it's open source. And it's GPL...

So let it be like that, and with Almalinux working together, everything will be stronger than ever.. At least CIQ can suck up their contract, that resold Red Hat code and never support upstream ever.. And stole about 30% of RHEL corporate market with cheap and no labor cost.. So whatever...

Yeah. But red hat already say it first, that it need to focus on other part of desktop for Wayland.

There are trade off when you are moving resources, and Red Hat do it for free..

So why I called it FUD, because they talk because they don't know the chronology...

And for the post from Red Hat Engineer, I know they don't like it, but Wayland need more focus also 3D part as it's core part of Red Hat business and for greater masses.. You can't have shinny thing sucking out people or corporation without win win benefit.. And the engineer are employed by red hat.... That's it.
