Kinoite is looking really nice since my Linux is bugged (again).

I don't mean for this to become a KDE vs GNOME post. I'm looking at switching to Fedora (because Arch is a pain), and it seems that GNOME is more supported. I use KDE on Arch. What features would I be losing if I were to switch? (ex: toolbar management, KRunner, etc.)

I use Arch Linux, and some apps require me to use Windows. I have tried to get Wine working, but it's just too much of a hassle. If the only goal of my virtualization setup is to run something like Adobe apps (I'm not doing any gaming on it), will Virtualbox or virt-manager be the quick and easy choice for me? I have tried using Virtualbox, but it didn't work due to some dkms drivers I think. I also don't want to use QEMU by itself, as I don't like using terminal commands and much prefer using a GUI to do things.

I use Element as my Matrix client, but all of the Secure Backup and Cross-Signing buttons confuse me. Does anyone know the difference between pressing Reset instead of Delete Backup for the Secure Backup? Also, how does Cross-Signing share the same key with Secure Backup, or am I mixing something up?

I keep hearing on VPN ads that you have to use a VPN to not have your login information stolen. So far I have been using Cloudflare WARP to be safe enough. However, if I am using an HTTPS website, do I really need a VPN or WARP? Will an attacker on the same network as me be able to access passwords transmitted over HTTPS?

I have a GeForce 210 GPU on an EndeavourOS computer. I use Noveau drivers, but some apps like Blender have a broken user interface, and KDE acts weird sometimes. I tried installing the proprietary NVIDIA drivers following the Archlinux wiki, but I did not have any display output at all. I also tried running the NVIDIA driver .run file, but it warned me about changing drivers, and I don't know how to do that. I don't think that I understand the steps in the wiki. I would also like to use Wayland on my computer.

I've only heard of it happening, and I don't want to take any risks.

If anyone can recommend me a better community to post this in, please do so.

I have an Exchange email that was given to me by my company, but they disabled IMAP/POP support, and they won't turn it on. I don't want to use an email client that requires access over my device (ex: screen lock control). Is there a good app that allows me to bypass that (like Davmail for a computer)? It doesn't need to be open source, I just need something that works without crazy control over my phone.

I am currently using EndeavourOS for my laptop. Is there a backup solution that is easy to use, and can be run from the EndeavourOS install media without internet? (RSync is included, but no other backup tools are included, to my knowledge.) I don't want to use another ISO due to space constraints on my USB.

I used to use Atom as my primary code editor, and it was really easy to disable telemetry in it (just two clicks). Now that Atom is no longer supported, I decided on using VSCode or VSCodium. However, I don't really know which one to choose.

  • How much privacy am I losing? I also use Pycharm for Python most of the time, so I am wondering which would be the less privacy invasive one.
  • I also heard that VSCode still sends telemetry, is that true (in the sense that it is sending more than a "no telemetry" flag)?
  • Also, is it possible to make vscode.dev run without telemetry?
  • Will VSCodium support C++ and CMake with compilation, or will I need to use VSCode for that?

(I know there is a "Code - OSS", but I just need to know about VSCode and VSCodium)

Thank you for finding this! I couldn't find this for some reason through Google.

I am currently running EndeavourOS on my laptop, and I have all of the "printer" packages from installation installed. My company uses a Papercut NG server to manage printing, and I have an account in the system. However, there are no clear guides for installing the Papercut client on Linux, or printing to a managed printer from Linux. I also found out that AirPrint is available for all printers, but I need to log in if I want to print. Is there a way to print from my laptop using Endeavour?

Solution: Apparently there is a guide at https://demo.papercut.com/content/help/clienttool/topics/user-client-install-linux.html

I actually used Mint as my first distro, however the software it has is way too out of date for me (for example, Wine was many months out of date for me), so I can't use it.

Is "upgrading" Fedora in the same sense as upgrading Ubuntu?

Note: I don't know if I'm posting this in the right community, I joined Lemmy recently.

I use KDE Neon on my desktop, and I recently decided to install Linux on my laptop. I don't want to install KDE Neon onto my laptop though, because it only has fairly up to date software through Flatpak (at least for me).

Is there a good distro with very up to date software that doesn't require me to check on it often, and that I can probably make it work within 15 days? (I have the list of apps I need.) I prefer an Arch-based distro that lets me remove a lot of distro specific customization. However, if there is some other distro "base" that has software up to date like Arch and the AUR, please also let me know.

(I tried Arch already, but it seems to be too hard for me to configure, and it has multiple weird issues for me, so I don't really want to use it.)

Edit 1: (Late edit because lemmy.world was down for the day) I am going to try out Fedora KDE, Endeavour KDE, and Manjaro KDE out. Might also check out Kinoite. Will update after I have tested each.
