It wasn't altruistic per se, but that doesn't make it nefarious, either. At it's core, it was just a network connectivity design that resists node failure. It was us that used that foundation to create a virtual space that everyone could participate in. We now have outsized bad actors like Google and Microsoft and Amazon and alphabet agencies that are trying to influence that virtual space, but its culture was built by us.

From all the war stories you see online, they don't have that much to lose.
Doesn't seem like he was implying anything. Just stating the fact that part of the burden of citizenship is sometimes having to interact with law enforcement, maybe even go to trial, even if you've done nothing wrong.
I use Publii. It is a static site generator, and it's open source. In my opinion, statically generated sites are superior for a lot of purposes. You can upload the generated site to any web hosting service. It doesn't include any trackers. It actually only produces the content you ask it to.
It is also very easy to use. The interface is a lot like what you'd expect if you're familiar with Wordpress or similar. If you have an existing Wordpress blog, you can import it and keep all your content.
My blog is generated by Publii. There is no code running on the server, it is all plain HTML. I run a self hosted tracking service myself, but I had to intentionally add it to the footer of the generated pages.
Fair, but the more people you have, with more diverse viewpoints, the harder it will be to get people to agree on what is hateful. And the more nuanced your laws, the harder it will be to agree on what is reasonable or even clear.
If the populace has a bigoted plurality, then they get to declare what is officially hateful. So yes, you're right.
I put the onus on the collective citizenry, but there is no perfect solution in reality. There is a role for the state to play in protecting people, I just don't think they should dip much into what speech is or isn't allowed. The majority should rule in my opinion, but we have the job of maintaining a majority that isn't regressive bigoted shitheads. It's an eternal struggle, unfortunately.
You're partly right. But it's the job of the citizenry to stand up to this stuff, not the state. We can't keep our heads down and hope it goes away on its own. We shouldn't allow the state, with its monopoly on violence, to fight our social battles for us.
I dislike the idea of the state getting to start making decisions on what is "hateful". And I'm disgusted we don't have more people standing up and loudly declaring how wrong the hateful viewpoints are. It is our responsibility and we are failing.
It is a tempting proposition to let the state handle hateful speech, but we don't have to look much further than Florida to see what happens when the shit side is in power and starts redefining what is "hateful".
The main barrier here is the basic computer knowledge. Jewelry design is almost certainly going to have to be solved by a CAD solution. And CAD is a complicated type of design work to do on computers.
I don't have a quality comment, just wanted to say I fuckin' love LibreOffice. Have used it or its predecessor since I was in high school at the turn of the century. Lord that makes me sound old. I think LibreOffice actually forked when I was in college, so mid 2000's.
Anyway, great software. Highly recommend. 10/10.
It was corrupted in much the same way the stock market was corrupted. That whole thing is mostly speculative gambling now, when it was supposed to about profit sharing with companies that were either sound investments currently with steady profits or up-and-coming companies that had potential. Now it's just casino gambling betting on prices that are completely divorced from reality that expects infinite growth of made up value.
