I was excited for EVs but it looks like I'll be driving gasoline dinosaurs for the rest of my life.

Yup. Fearing the same as well. All I'm asking for is a car, not a Windows computer.

Are you retarded? How would you see where you are going if you can't see.

[-] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago

Sadly it seems our best bet would be to build it ourselves.

Aptera supports Right to Repair.,

Edison Motors has preorders for their pickup truck conversion kits as well if you need something bigger.

I like Aptera and have a couple of them pre-ordered but that's nothing but a promise. They have plans to IPO. Zero chance their consumer-friendly approach survives that for very long.

Only slightly higher chance that they actually get to market too... Fingers crossed for 2025.

They promised first deliveries before the end of 2022. The only thing they showed up with was a new prototype. There was no explanation given. No acknowledgement. They since pushed the delivery dates back 3 more times, each with no acknowledgement or explanation. Now they say late 2025. I am not hopeful.

I wonder WHEN that "right" has been TAKEN?

Lets wake up for fuck sake and push back!

I'm imagining cars like Framework laptops and you can install an open source OS of your own choice to operate it.

I literally had this thought the other day. I feel like car guys would love it too. A potential untapped market

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Right, like if I want a tablet in my car I will just get a dash mount arm and throw whatever current gen tablet on it. I don't need it as a part of the car.

Someone is bound to start selling conversion kits for regular cars eventually - turn your 20 year old gas dinosaur into a zippy EV or hybrid, no spyware required. We can already do it with two-wheelers, and Edison Motors is well on their way to making kits to turn big trucks into hybrids.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

I tried this more than 15 years ago...

Besides money, batteries and a lot of effort you know why it did not work?

AUTHORITIES they would not "license" a converted car from gas to electric.

and YES the SAME AUTHORITIES that are saying now and pretend to care about environment and push all these EVs and Hybrids to "Save our Planet"

Fucking hypocrites!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

That actually would be pretty cool. Especially mid sized SUVs that have AWD

[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago

It will have to be the older gasoline dinosaurs, all the ones today spy

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Yes well, older gasoline cars are the only cars. That's what I meant.
