Happy cake day!

A different perspective - my grandparents grew up speaking French. Then the state passed a law saying only English in schools when they were young children. They would get hit on the hands with rulers for speaking French.
This was of course passed down to my parents and myself. But my mom still bitches about kids where I currently live being in school and unable to speak English because they’re new immigrants.
She doesn’t see the hypocrisy and it’s sad.
Thanks for the rec, I have not read it. It sounds like something I would enjoy, so I’ll check it out!
9/11 enabled so much of this to be fast-tracked. Thanks, Patriot Act.

Alligators…not sure if that’s considered “common” or not. We don’t see them on a regular basis depending on your activities. If you fish/kayak a lot, you’ll see them. If you don’t, you generally won’t unless there’s a drought. Then they’ll be in intersections or in your parking lot at work looking for water.
You sound kind of amazing.
Ohh that sounds like a ton of fun! Thank you!
Please report back and let us know what you think! I got a used copy recently but haven’t tried it yet.
Same (wrt that last part). Trying to find one that works but it’s honestly exhausting after years of seeing them all be pretty much the same. And I can’t really articulate what it is that would make it be the one for me. I know I’m not helping in any way here, lol
This is a wonderfully put together comprehensive and informative reply. Thank you :)
Who hurt you, OP?
