One of my favorite player backstories was a well-to-do guy having a midlife crisis and going on adventures while still writing home sometimes to assure The Wife that he's just on a business trip. 
The sheer level of rage he would vomit all over Twitter would make this worth it and might actually be one of the few genuinely funny things he would ever participate in.
Where does 
factor into it? Unless he's an after-market and very-divorced dealer down at the used meme dealership.
Remember when new technology seemed exciting and fun instead of "how will this further fuck us over so frequent flyers to Little St. James can have another glass-bottomed yacht?" 
Measuring the exact weight of every item in inventory is also a charming but typically discouraged new player practice.
"The shuttle prop is too expensive, let's use some camera trick to move people from the ship to the planet set."

Just consume product, get excited for next product, and assure yourself that you are smarter than both sides.

Give it time. Those work conditions are getting gradually worse all over again as the internal contradictions intensify.
