Yes true! She was actually in a completely different department. But the prompt did say job or company. :)

I have a friend who left her job for greener pastures, but realized quickly that her old job was better. Her old job asked her to come back several times over the course of almost 2 years, but she didn't want to move backwards in her career, so she always declined. It wasn't until they asked her to come back with a big promotion (which meant a different boss) that she decided to come back.

So far she has been happy.

I am running into a bug with pipewire where every time my laptop wakes from sleep, my audio devices (both input and output) get duplicated. So if I close my laptop lid and open it 5 times, I will have 5 sets of speakers and 5 microphones. And at that point, the volume controls stop working and everything kinda goes to shit. If I restart the pipewire service, everything starts working fine again.

The workaround I am using is I made a systemd service that restarts the pipewire service each time the device wakes from sleep. And that works fine. But I was wondering if anyone else ran into this and if there is a better solution available.

I had one of these when I was a kid.

It was annoying, though because you needed to fill it with ice and water. We used it very rarely. And IIRC one time we didn't dump the water out right away and left it overnight, and it never worked again.

Is there a way to migrate from Tumbleweed to this new "Slowroll" thing without reinstalling? Like could I just update my zypper repos or something?

Well since the CSAM issues, I shut down the image hosting part of my instance, and it will stay down until lemmy comes out with a way to disable image caching from other instances. I can't speak for everyone, but externally hosted images are my only option for now.

For the longest time I didn't even know what cilantro tasted like. I thought maybe it tasted like nothing to me. The reason for this was once when my wife and I were at a Mexican restaurant, I got some green salsa. I dipped my chip in and complained to my wife that it tasted like nothing. She dipped a chip in and started gagging. She said it tasted like pure liquid cilantro.

One day I was cutting some cilantro for some tacos I was making at home, and I took a big bite. It didn't taste like nothing to me. I just always associated the flavor with lime because anytime I have something with cilantro, I always squeeze a lime over it.

I always thought that was mildly interesting.

Samsung was just an example. I have been out of the Android development game for a while now, so my information might be outdated, but back when I worked for an android device maker (Android 5 timeframe), any Android device maker could use the system level APIs. You just needed to sign your app the the same keys your Android source code was compiled with.

Google has blocked anyone's ability to make an RCS app by making the API a system-level API. In order to make an RCS app, you must make an Android device. So Samsung could make one and bundle it with their phones, but Textra can't make one and make it available on the Play Store.

Definitely no reason to be worried now, but I probably wouldn't do that again. Worst case you could be arrested for it.

I was the lead engineer on a mesh wifi system. Not only do I recommend mesh WiFi, but I high recommend you throw your extender in the garbage. Many extenders cause wireless interference, which will actually make your quality of connection worse on both networks. They are essentially a second WiFi network in your house. Some smart ones will put you on the same subnet so your devices can communicate with each other across networks, but the router and extender will not tell your device when to switch from one network to the other. This will mean that whichever one your phone connects to first, it will stubbornly stay on until you either turn your wifi off and back on on your phone, or your phone's wifi connection is so horrible that it can't communicate at all. This is what mesh does well. It sends a message to your phone saying which node you have the strongest reception to, and assuming your device supports mesh AP steering (most phones made in the past decade do), your phone will automatically hop to the node with the strongest signal as you walk around your house.

The price of mesh networks has come down dramatically since it first got popular a decade or so ago. Ideally, you could have a wired connection between nodes, but it isn't required. You just may need more nodes to make sure they all have a strong connection with each other. Remember that mesh nodes are going to have much larger antennas than your cell phone or laptop, so they will be able to get decent reception in a spot that your phone might get just okay reception.

My wife and I got moissanite for her engagement ring. It was about 1/10th the price of a diamond of the same size. I think it looks even better than a diamond, personally.
