and the market will be flooded.

China will figure this out.

Nope. China won't figured it out and will only be able to do semiconductors that trail behind a lot for a very long time. The smallest node that actually works for them is 16 nm, SMIC's 7 nm in the new Kirin 9000S Chip is not even close, especially compared to the Krin 9000 wich is made with TSMCs 5nm node. Performance and Efficiency are up to 45% behind TSMCs stuff (Which is not something that can be explained away with just because of the smaller node).

But that's not all: The way SMIC manufactures these chips is extremely expensive, due to the fact that they have to use multi-patterning. This also effects yields significant. They have no chance to compete on the open market against Samsung, Intel and TSMC, even with the high subsidies from the Chinese government. Also, while the way they are being produced allows for 6 nm, the gate length and contact width are going to reduce yield even more.

So they simply can't flood the market.

Look at the list and stop talking out your ass. Wars are won due to logistics, lots of paperwork and so on. Granted, the situation could be better, but let's not pretend Ukraine has its back against a wall.

They are still kicking Russia like nothing before.

Also, they are not just accepting any mental disorder, there are many disorders that may prevent someone to be in the front, but they don't prevent one to carry supplies from A-B in the back country. Wars are not just won through fights on the front.

Because the money for modernizing, let alone replacing those plants is a lot better invested in renewables. Battery Storage is very close to store baseline energy, not in Lithium Batteries though and the projected cost for Redox-Flow Batteries is going to be falling like crazy. It already is on the same level as Lithium, and while it is less energy dense, it's safer, easier to operate and especially longer to operate. The Dalian VFB in Liaoning, Dalian, China is one of the first "bigger" stations to come online, but there are already a lot of plans. I also have one in my house.

How about you guys stop this bullshit about the nuclear plants stuff? They were scheduled to be shut down for a VERY long time, the biggest mistake was selling out nearly all the renewable energy manufacturing to China. Nuclear power is only making a profit, if it's subsidized like crazy.

Not only that - A LOT of Germans are actively against putting up more wind power, let alone photovoltaics. Which is what over 50% voted "against" as well. Those that didn't go voting, have lost all say in it, so yeah. That's not a political issue, we Germans are the issue.

Seriously when I was in Japan I saw people at the station that were just pointing passengers towards the exit. And it wasn’t even an emergency situation, just a regular workday.

That's because in Japan, people like people showing them the way. In a society were social contacts are... Seldom, these small things remind them there are other actual people. And I get the sentiment and I'm pretty young in comparison with just over 30. Making that exact job anything but meaningless.

No, the collapse of the AMOC was pretty rapid in the past as well. And it's separate from climate change. Man-made global warming is very complex and there are various things contributing to it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Not really - the AMOC collaps between 2025 and 2095 was already in a 2005 paper. Nothing really "new", IMHO.

Mostly florida, as the "AMOC" transports the heat away from florida. Could very well be, that a stoppage of the AMOC would create a Hypercane and completely wreck everything in Florida. Cuba could also be absolutely done for. Canada would also probably have a LOT more snow - the Soutpole however would probably stop existing and what exactly is going to happen to Brazil is a complete unknown. Some simulations show the insta death of the rest of the rain forest. Some simulations actually show the opposite. However, Europe, Africa and Asia probably would see a lot lower temps - what exactly that would mean for the Climate in those areas is also highly speculative - however, it's something that happened quite often throughout the history of earth. North America however has lots of other parts liveable, when Florida is "dead" and basically the Sahara.

The doom depends on where you live. Florida? Yup, probably, but you where already living in hell. Europe? Iced up North Sea, really snowy north, big ice caps, Spain and portugal getting more cool...doesn't sound that bad, to me personally.
