This op doesn't specify which time zone. This is terrifying because that means I could sort by new at any time and it would be the cursed 3am that op mentions. Is that the true terror of this meme?

Op doesn't specify time zone while making a comment about the rest of the world

90% sure that OP is american then

[–] [email protected] 25 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Well America itself is actually 6 time zones with the largest gap being 6 hours between the Eastern time zone and the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone so it could just be that OP

  1. Is dumb
  2. Is being intentionally vague for intrigue/outrage
  3. just lives in a country with one time zone and didn't have to think about it. This could be true even if they live in a big ass county like China or India since they both only recognize one time zone each for their own reason.

As an American I can unequivocally state that differing time zones are one thing we do get. It's a very wide place.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

It's ironic that some people go after Americans for being ignorant of the wider world then they go and act like America = East Coast

As a US Citizen I have quite a few EU friends (I like hanging out there okay?!? and the people are mostly kinda awesome?) and the biggest and most humorous thing I have discovered is that most Europeans don’t realize how small their countries are compared to the US.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 10 months ago

Literally everyone knows how big the US is. Mostly cos yous never shut up about it lol.

"Most Europeans" is not only a massive exaggeration, but it's condescending as fuck

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

OP out here just trying to get upvotes.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

Time.utc_now()

[–] [email protected] 28 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Is it because that's when the Europeans are waking up?

Still beats browsing Reddit by all/new

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I saw a CP post doing this 1-2h ago, maybe the OP saw it too

UTC+2 btw

I'm hoping you mean Cyberpunk because that's horrifying otherwise. Hope the mods were quick on that one

Wow that's very organized of you all.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Guess that makes me not European then

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago

It's because at 3am the lemmy browsee is very tired

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago

I’ve seen straight up racist and pedophilic posts on this community. They need more moderators or something. The posts did get removed which is good

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The unfortunate reality of it is that there's plenty of room for bad motives in seeking freedom from the corporate control of social media.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This is a problem with any platform. It’s not unique to Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

How can we get rid of those problems and keep them out?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Sadly seems to be a common problem in social media platforms. Twitter became way worse at dealing with CSAM under Musk, and Instagram looks like it's putting in no effort at all to combat it either.

I used to mod some fairly big communities on one of my Reddit alts and every now and then the spam filter would remove some post or comment linking to CP. Possibly the only compliment I have of Reddit at this point is that their spam filtering seems to work decently well (at least when it comes to posts and comments, not sure how it might be for DMs).
